Braulia. About Women Power

The small village of Chinchero, in the Andes of Peru, is world renowned as a weaving town whose focus is to preserve the Inca textile tradition. There, a group of women decided to join forces and start a business on their own. Fed up with selling their products for cheaper prices to intermediaries, they opened their house for direct sale and weaving workshops.

As most of the Quechua communities around Peru, they live with few things. Forget Wi-Fi, hot shower and a warm, cozy home…Instead they work hard, living off the land and weaving.
Yet, this little group of women, cooking all together, chatting away happily while working, being focused during their weekly English lesson, showed me how many chances to be happy we miss everyday.

Braulia Puma, portrayed in the first image of the series, is the founder of this small collective. She can also be seen in the documentary movie "Sembradoras de Vida" selected for the Berlinale 2019 - Kulinarisches Kino. The movie accompanies five women from the Andean highlands in their daily struggle to maintain a traditional and organic way of working the land.
